Paris 2024 Olympics
Athletes from 206 countries have traveled to Paris to compete in their respective sports. Pope Francis and Athletica Vaticana, the official sports association of the Vatican, have invited all athletes to utilize the “great social power of sport” to unite people and serve as advocates for peace, especially amidst current international tensions and conflicts.
“I hope that this event may be a beacon of the inclusive world we want to build and that athletes, with their sporting testimony, may be messengers of peace and authentic models for young people,” Pope Francis said.
Sports can serve as a platform for genuine camaraderie. The Olympic Games, inherently, promote peace over conflict. They represent a universal language that goes beyond boundaries, languages, ethnicities, nationalities, and faiths; they bring people together, encouraging dialogue and mutual understanding. Sports inspire individuals to exceed their capabilities, nurture a sense of selflessness, cultivate loyalty in human interactions, and prompt acknowledgment of personal limitations and the worth of others.
You might want to bring a little healthy competitive spirit to your Church of the Home. While you might not be quite up to the same level as Simone Biles or Katie Ledecky, these Family Games require a variety of different talents.
Join us for Mass this weekend in person at 4:00 PM on Saturday, 8:30 or 10:30 AM on Sunday, on www.gbres.org/live, our YouTube channel, and our Facebook page.

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION
Life can be lived with a disposition of scarcity or an attitude of abundance. Scarcity makes us smaller, while abundance opens us to become part of something greater. We can choose to live from scarcity, protectively avoiding the world's pain, or from abundance, embracing God's love and embracing all creation. Join Steve as he reflects on this weekend's scripture.
