The Apostle to the Apostles

On the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, we remember how she became the “Apostle to the Apostles” by letting her voice carry the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection. She was the first to recognize Jesus as the risen Christ and she followed his instructions to tell the Apostles what had happened. Mary was a bold messenger, a tower of strength and courage, a willing apostle. May we look to her as our model as we carry forth our message of a new Church for a new day.
Mary Magdalene has been a victim of mistaken identity for almost 20 centuries. Yet she would no doubt insist that it makes no difference. We are all in need of the saving power of God, no matter the sins we have committed. More importantly, we are all “unofficial” witnesses of the Resurrection.
Ideas to celebrate St. Mary Magdalene today and beyond:
Invite a friend or family member to Mass. Share the Good News just like Mary Magdalene.
Take time to recognize the women who helped you to grow in faith.
Spend some time in the garden, your own or a church garden, praying and reflecting on your faith.
Prayer
O God, whose Only Begotten Son entrusted Mary Magdalene before all others with announcing the great joy of the Resurrection, grant, we pray, that through her intercession and example we may proclaim the living Christ and come to see him reigning in your glory. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION
Where do you find the kingdom of God? When we open our eyes and look with a new perspective, we find the kingdom in the ordinariness of our everyday life. The love, forgiveness, and inclusion of God's kingdom invades our lives, if we let it. Join Bridget as she reflects on this weekend's Gospel.
