Church of the Home for Saturday, December 14

Updated: Dec 20, 2024

Happy Gaudete Sunday! It is the third Sunday of Advent and a weekend of joyful anticipation. This day calls for a shift from the somber, reflective tone of the season to a celebration of the imminent arrival of Jesus. It reminds us to rejoice as we prepare our hearts and our communities for Christ's birth.

The theme of "Preparing Room in the Inn" resonates deeply on Gaudete Sunday, encouraging our Churches of the Home to make deliberate space in our lives for the joy and light of Christ. By embracing acts of kindness, worship, and communal celebrations, we can create an atmosphere that warmly welcomes the Savior, much like making room in the inn for the Holy Family.

During Advent, adoration can become especially meaningful as families prepare for the arrival of Jesus. Adoration is a cherished practice where believers come before the Blessed Sacrament to honor the real presence of Christ. It is a time of quiet reflection, worship, and deep connection with the divine. By dedicating time for adoration, we can make room in our hearts and homes for the Savior, much like preparing a place in the inn. This sacred practice invites a spirit of anticipation and reverence.

In addition to visiting the tabernacle in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, each Thursday, immediately following the Daily Mass, the community at Resurrection offers a unique opportunity for its members to engage in a time of adoration, which is a cherished practice within the faith. This time allows individuals to deepen their spiritual connection and devotion, fostering a sense of peace and reflection. The adoration can be participated in both in person and online, making it accessible to a wider audience, including those who may be unable to attend in person due to various circumstances.

Blessings are acts of invoking God's grace and protection upon individuals, objects, and places. During Advent, blessings hold a significant place as Churches of the Home seek to infuse daily lives with divine favor. Blessing the Advent wreath, the home, and each family member is a way to acknowledge God's presence and to sanctify their preparations for Christmas. These moments of blessing serve as reminders to open one's heart to God's love and mercy, much like the innkeeper eventually made space for Mary and Joseph. In this way, blessings help cultivate an atmosphere of holiness and readiness for Christ's coming.

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION

Where in the simple moments do you see joy? Are we open to the messages of joy and the call to action from John the Baptist, urging us to embody generosity, compassion, and honesty in our lives? We must open our eyes to recognize God's presence in our hearts and communities, fostering a spirit of justice and enthusiasm as we approach Christmas. Join Marla as she reflects on the scripture readings for the Third Sunday of Advent.

AUDITIO DIVINA

In this episode of Auditio Divina, hosts Katie and Tony explore the theme of joy for the Third Week of Advent. They introduce the practice of sacred listening, reflecting on the readings from the scriptures and the song 'Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee' from the movie soundtrack "Sister Act 2." Through multiple listenings and reflections, they invite listeners to engage deeply with the music and its spiritual significance, emphasizing the importance of sharing joy and light with others.

Lyrics:

Joyful, Joyful

Lord, we adore Thee

God of glory

Lord of love

Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee

Hail Thee as the sun above

Melt the clouds of sin, sin and sadness

Drive the dark of doubt away

Drive it away

Giver of immortal gladness

Fill us

Fill us with the light of day

Light of day!
