Church of the Home for Saturday, May 25

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is celebrated this weekend. We are reminded to celebrate and contemplate the unfathomable mystery of God’s triune nature and deepen our relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

God is “beyond us.”

We can never really fathom what God is, but we know that He is far beyond our limited human nature or anything we can come to know in that human experience. God is the ultimate mystery, the question that we never fully answer. This is God the Father — the creator, the one who is beyond all understanding.

God is also “among us.”

We come to know God in the person of Jesus. God takes on our human nature and becomes “one of us.” Catholics also believe that this human experience of God continues in the sacrament of the Eucharist. God the Son is among us.

God is also “within us.”

God is the “divine spark” that awakens us to the fact that we are alive. God imbues us with our creativity, our gifts and talents, and our limitations as well. As we come to know ourselves as people, we also come to know God — who knows us better than we know ourselves. This is the experience of God the Holy Spirit.

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, we reflect on and pay tribute to heroic sacrifices. It is a time to recognize those who selflessly gave their lives for a cause they deemed greater than themselves. Since the post-Civil War era, Americans have come together in late May to commemorate the fallen heroes of military service. In the same spirit, we can also remember, honor, and offer prayers for all individuals we know who have dedicated their lives to serving and sacrificing for the betterment of others.

In 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act. It asks all Americans to pause at 3pm for one minute of silence, honoring those who died in service to our country.  At 3pm, the Hour of Mercy, pause what you are doing and reverence these brave souls.

Join us for Mass this weekend in person at 4:00 PM on Saturday, 8:30 or 10:30 AM on Sunday, on www.gbres.org/live, our YouTube channel, and our Facebook page.

Katie and Tony break open the song "The General" by Dispatch for May 2024.

Lyrics:

He said: I have seen the others

And I have discovered

That this fight is not worth fighting

And I've seen their mothers

And I will no other

To follow me where I'm going

So, take a shower, shine your shoes

You got no time to lose

You are young men you must be living

Take a shower, shine your shoes

You got no time to lose

You are young men you must be living

Go now you are forgiven
