Church of the Home for Saturday, July 20

Legacy of a Deacon

ree

Resurrection has lost a fixture in our community. Deacon Don Ropson entered into eternal life on Monday, July 15. As memories pour in about his impact on many lives, we are reminded of the legacy of those familiar faces we see within our parish family.

Deacon Don passionately answered his call to the diaconate. It's been often quipped that Deacon Don "Hatched, Matched, and Dispatched." He baptized babies and journeyed with couples as they entered matrimony. He brought the church's presence to those ailing or at the end of life and spoke the words of final commendation for many. As a deacon, he was a beautiful example of service to God, Church, and Family. Deacon Don demonstrated humility and prayer for all at Resurrection.

Deacon Don is also remembered for his warm smile and welcoming attitude. While he was present at life's milestones, he was also present in the ordinary moments of life.

As a Church of the Home, continue the legacy of Deacon Don and those who share his qualities:

  1. Reflect upon how you and your family have answered God's call. When have you been a service to God, Church, and Family?

  2. Spend some quiet time in nature. Deacon Don was a champion for God's natural creation, especially wildlife.

  3. Support organizations dear to Deacon Don's heart: Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter American Parkinson Association, Wisconsin Chapter

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION

Do you take time to pause and remember that Christ is the true Shepherd? All those who lead others need rest and prayer in order to serve fully empowered by Christ. It is Christ who is the source of joy, strength, and peace, even amidst the divisions, problems, and wars of the world. Join Fr. Paul as he reflects on this weekend's scripture readings.
