Sunday of Summer
The calendar has officially flipped to August. Ask any student, they are beginning to see a new school year approaching quickly.
August is commonly seen as the month of transition on the calendar. It marks the period when we start winding down from our summer trips and vacations and get ready for Autumn. Some even say that August is the Sunday of Summer, meaning it feels like the evening before returning to reality... the weather is cooler, school has resumed, and we can no longer be oblivious to the days of the week.
But did you know August is not only a month but also an adjective? The Oxford Dictionary defines august as "Inspiring or worthy of respect; impressively eminent or respected; imposing, reverend, worshipful." Isn't it fitting that August is the month we celebrate glorious feasts in the life of Christ and Mary? We commemorate the feast of the Transfiguration on August 6 and the feast of the Assumption on August 15.
As summer draws to a close, let's conclude this season on a high note in our Home Churches. Take time to find your faith's inspiring and worshipful moments this August.
Join us for Mass this weekend in person at 4:00 PM on Saturday, 8:30 or 10:30 AM on Sunday, on www.gbres.org/live, our YouTube channel, and our Facebook page.
READINGS FOR THIS WEEKEND’S MASSES
VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION
Everyone has a hunger for more connection, love, joy, and security, even if basic needs are met. We often try to fill our spiritual hunger with things that don't satisfy, such as excessive accumulation, addiction, and the pursuit of power and fame. Our deepest desires can only be filled by the bread of life, Jesus. Join Bridget as she reflects on this weekend's scripture readings.
