Church of the Home for Saturday, April 20

What's Your Church of the Home's Vocation?

A vocation is a calling from God, and all of us have one.

In the past, the Church has tended to focus on the vocations of priesthood and religious life, but we are all called to “the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of charity,” said Pope Francis in his document Amoris Laetitia. It is an universal call to holiness.

In many Churches of the Home, it can seem that there is a struggle to fit this call to holiness around day-to-day family life. The reality is that it is actually through the daily experience of living as a Church of the Home that we live out our call to follow God. This is why Pope Francis speaks of “the vocation of the family” and reminds us that in and among families the gospel message should always resound (Amoris Laetitia 58).

How does your Church of the Home live out it's vocation? What is God’s call in your daily life?

Reflect and discuss as a Church of the Home:

  • What moments have we shared wonderful memories of thriving with purpose? What is at the heart of those moments?

  • What do people notice about us (together) that is unique or different from other couples/families? How are people blessed by us as a team?

  • What ideas and dreams have we enjoyed cultivating together (including the crazy ones)?

  • What do we do really well together?

  • How and when do we bring out the best in each other?

  • What do we have to sacrifice or overcome in order to work as a team?

  • What do we both/all deeply believe about God and his mission?

Finally, come up with a statement that expresses what you believe your Church of the Home's vocational call is.

READINGS FOR THIS WEEKEND’S MASSES

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION

Who is your leader? How do you know the one you follow is a good or poor leader? There are many leaders who can lead us down different paths. We need to discern that the direction we go is in line with the teachings of Jesus. Being a follower of the ultimate leader, Christ, isn't always easy. But when our inner voice is guided by God, we can lead others on the path of peace and goodness. Join Tony as he reflects on this weekend's Gospel.
