People of the Resurrection,
After 4 installments of the “New Pastor’s Report”, from our June 5th Annual Parish Meeting, which I hope were helpful to you and useful for your prayer and reflection on our life together in the parish family, I thought to ‘lighten things up’ this week, and next with 2 pieces of literature, which over the years have been powerful for me in growing Faith. I hope for you as well.
First, a piece I found in 1971, for a Sophomore Speech class at Appleton-West, the words of Indian writer, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). Written around 1900, it’s a kind of prayer – for ourselves, our Church, our Nation:
Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high,
Where knowledge is free,
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments
by narrow domestic walls,
Where words come out from
the depth of truth,
Where tireless striving stretches
its arms towards perfection,
Where the clear stream of
reason has not lost its way
into the dreary desert sand of
Where the mind is led forward by Thee
into ever-widening thought and action…
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
And from the dock…alone…at Morgan Lake, my prayer for you, and for us together:
“God bless us...EVERY one”!
