Fr. Tim's Letter - April 8, 2018, Divine Mercy Sunday

Happy Easter! People of the Resurrection...

“Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death! And on those in the tombs, bestowing life!”

Alleluia! Alleluia!! Alleluia!!!

Writing on March 28th for April 8th, by the calendar I’m still anticipating Triduum and Easter!  But that bulletin timeline helped me to an important insight: If what we did for Lent made us better Christians, better persons, better spouses, parents, children, ministers and friends…then why would we stop it just because “calendar Lent” is over?

Why couldn’t it become a continuing pattern and new ‘habit’ for us on a more permanent basis?  Wouldn’t that be Easter Life and the Resurrection of Jesus within us and among us?   Just sayin’…

So 2 pieces from the Triduum worship aide that might help us to live in this life “from the Easter side” of things:

“Christianity is a crucifix – a man utterly used up for others. The true Christian looks at it and says: "Yes! That’s the most perfectly fulfilled human being who ever lived, caught at the moment of His greatest triumph! I want to be like Him” "!

Jesuit Father William O’Malley

Why wait to die

until the very last minute,

and have to go elsewhere

for the rest of our life?

Why not die early,

like the prophet,

in the middle of his years,

or the Messiah,

in the vigor of his youth?

Then we could stay around,

living our life from the Easter side;

coming and going as God wills,

like those who walk on the wind.

What a difference that would make

in how we live.

What a difference that would make

in how we die.

So, continuing to celebrate the 50 days of the ‘Great Day’ of Easter Victory…and
continuing the conversion of our lives to Christ – day by day…“God bless us...EVERY one”!
