Occupied Heart

     (“. . . God does not fit

     in an occupied heart.”

    St. John of the Cross)

The latch on the door has a switch –

   “occupied” – “unoccupied,”

and so too does the heart –

    “available” – “unavailable.”

Each of us must ask,

by way of inventory,

what resides in the heart,

with what, with whom is it occupied?

God seeks entrance –

“Today I mean to stay in your house.” –

The question: will hospitality be offered or not?
