The Best Love
Does love comes in sizes,
degrees, intensities?
Jesus says this is the best love of all –
to lay down one’s life.
A lesser love, frugal by nature,
goes but a mile, not the whole journey.
A lesser love, stingy by disposition,
tips the waitress a dime, not a dollar.
The best love is sacrificial, painful, joyful.
We see it on a hill called Calvary,
in the streets Mother Teresa walked in Calcutta,
in the kitchen, the hospital, the classroom where
parents and nurses and teachers give their all.
Yes, love does come in sizes,
great and small.
