Work of Mercy
Year after year
the photos keep coming –
the three-year-old child from Africa,
her rib cage showing and tears in her eyes;
the five-year-old boy from the slums of Calcutta,
eyes protruding and belly swollen;
a grandma from inner city Chicago,
emaciated and forlorn.
Hunger! Hunger! Hunger!
“Peter, do you love me?”
“Feed my sheep!”
