The Eye

Is the ear the only organ for listening

or can we listen (or not listen) with the eye?

Eye contact,

life’s supreme nonverbal communication,

contains amazing grace, often unappreciated.

Being seen, a form of being listened to,

is transformative, for good or ill.

A simple glance can color our days,

our lives, in ways unimagined.

An annual eye examination might be

a way of measuring our listening skill.
