Okolona Update for Tuesday, Feb 26, 2019

Our team is amazing. Yesterday and today we were hard at work dismantling the computer lab to get it rearranged for a new learning program soon to start. Some of us finished painting the bedroom at Sr  Jeanne’s home and a hallway in the EXCEL Commons. The guys finished their building project - a new porch for the Wilson Family. The old one was narrow and dangerous to use. Now as you can see from the pictures they have a place to put a couple of chairs to enjoy the weather and also safe steps. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson have both been on dialysis for several years. Way to go Bob, Terry and Craig for an outstanding job and for bringing big smiles to the Wilson Family!

Deb, Linda and Sheila have been spending two hours in the late afternoon helping Sr. Jeanne with the after school program. We are helping children one-on-one with math and reading. It’s starting to get way over our heads but the kids are patient with us 🙄

Sr. Liz and Sr Nancy join us each day for lunch and supper to go over the day, plan the next day and just have fun together. We saw some of the folks who have come to Green Bay and they send their love. They are all such welcoming and hospitable people.

Sr. Nancy created a new list since we are so efficient. We will be getting the “Mugs on Main Street” spruced up to reopen soon after a year hiatus. The new chef is testing out the menu on us for lunch tomorrow. Should be a treat.

We won’t tell you about our weather here knowing what you are enduring. We do pray for you all.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we try to grow as disciples of Jesus and stewards of Gods gifts.

Okolona Update for Monday, Feb 25, 2019

Our group made our way south from Green Bay on Saturday morning. We hit rain and fog most of the way but thankfully no snow or ice. We rested for the evening in Mt Vernon, IL. Found a lovely church where we celebrated mass with a friendly parish. We even had a baptism. They were selling meatballs but we opted for Mexican and then a good nights rest.

Finished our trip on Sunday and met Sr Liz, Sr Nancy, Sr Jeanne and Sr Therese, a guest volunteer from Australia, at the Excel Learning Center where we are lodged for the week. Great supper and conversation. Sr Nancy walked us through the “Honey Do” list. The guys then spent the rest of the evening “planning”. The women were organized within 15 minutes - in time to watch the Oscars.

We are so grateful for a safe trip, good companions, time to give back and to meet our friends, old and new, in Okolona.

Stay tuned and check out the pictures.
