Friends of Haiti Fall Mission Appeal
Preparations have begun for our fall mission to serve the poorest of God's poor and we again ask for your help. In the remote mountain villages of Haiti, where people "live" on one dollar a day, Friends of Haiti provides the only health care available. Here there is a constant struggle to survive the poverty-borne illnesses that show mercy to no one. Please consider your blessings and help us make their lives a little more comfortable. Our parish is being asked to donate these over the counter items:
- Antibiotic cream such as Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Cream. This is used for the treatment of cuts, wounds, burns, and donkey bites(!).
- Anti fungal cream such as Lotrimin or Clortrimozole. This is used for the treatment of skin and scalp infection so prevalent in Haiti's extreme heat and humidity. Selsun Blue also helps in the case of scalp infections.
- Sunglasses are needed to help prevent cataracts. So very many of Haiti's elderly suffer from vision loss due to cataracts. If anyone knows an ophthalmologist who would be willing to go to Haiti to do this kind of surgery, it would be a Godsend for these people who have nothing. We have tired of telling them that maybe next time an eye doctor will come.
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste. The thing children in Haiti ask for most of all is a toothbrush. Maybe when you take your children school shopping they would enjoy choosing a toothbrush and toothpaste for these chil
dren who use sticks to brush their teeth!
As always, generics are most welcome, as are tax deduct able checks made out to Friends of Haiti. We will be happy to shop for you! If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 866 - 9944 or wisit Friends of Haiti website.
God bless you for your help.
